EXPERT SESSIONS AND ADVICE FROM QUALIFIED AND EXPERIENCED GRASSROOTS RUGBY COACHES

16 drills to condition players and improve core skills

Mark out 16 small, 5-metre squares for each of the fitness drills and plays.

Allocate two players to work in each square. Control the length of time the players work – begin with 15 to 20 seconds for each drill. Then swap the players over and repeat the drill, before moving the players onto the next square.

Some squares may be left empty, or some players may need to wait a short while before starting their circuits.

These rugby training drills and plays will help your players develop their individual rugby skills and get fitter. Fatigue will set in, which will give you a good insight into which players can maintain their skills at a high level while tired.

Most importantly, you can have your whole squad working hard at the same time, which from an organisational point of view is great. These drills are ideal for training inside during poor weather conditions.
