All together now – defensive teamwork activities
Improve your defensive cohesiveness by practising more as a group. In this newsletter, we explore lots of different ways of challenging your players in unusual situations to enhance their connections and understanding.
First, we have the VIDEO: Two defensive-based conditioning drills. A great warm-up activity, it’s good for all the tackling ages.
Take this a bit further with the practice plan, The weakest kink. Now the defenders face dynamic attacks and need to work together to close down the threats.
Put this into a system of defence with Move and tackle together. In this activity, the defenders realign to make sure they’ve covered off the attackers in front of them.
Finally, practise set-pieces with Scrum defence training: Closing down their options. This activity connects 6,7,8 and 9 to the rest of the back line.
