A game for passing
I want to play a game to improve passing.
We will keep it simple and play a game of touch rugby.
If there is a one-handed touch by the defender on the ball carrier, the ball carrier must pass within 3 metres of the touch.. That means the ball carrier can continue to run forward.
On the fourth touch, the ball is turned over to the other team.
The defending team also receive the ball after an infringement (like going over the touchline) or after a score.
The game is restarted from the try line with a second ball being introduced by the coach immediately after the score. This will take advantage of the space available and maintain intensity and focus. I am not a fan of going back to the half-way line after each score – it wastes time.
Three points for a score. Scoring is the primary objective of the game and should match or exceed any bonus points.
In the next topic, we look at how to use bonus points to enhance skill development.
