Skills for the close support
The players who are most likely to take the next pass need to use the following skills:
SCANNING
Support players need to look at where the defence are and in relation to themselves and the ball carrier.
In this case, 1 in this picture might see gap for the ball carrier to go through and so might hold their run.
DEPTH
Far enough behind the ball carrier to run onto the pass.
ANGLES
Attacking the spaces in the defence by changing the angle of the run.
CATCHING
Hands up and ready when they are needed, but not too soon because they may lose their balance.
And then, take the pass.
COMMUNICATION
Passing information to the ball carrier on when and where to pass.
