Three whistle charge
This fast-paced support game gets teams scoring points by creating overloads, avoiding being touched, preventing and scoring tries and shows that every action makes a difference.
Three teams of six in a 40x30m box with 5m in-goal channels on two opposite sides and a ball in the middle. Three teams of 6 (A, B and C), one in the middle of the box, the others placed as shown in picture 1.
Team A cover one end, team B the other with team C in the middle. You call a letter (A) then blow your whistle once.
Team A runs into the middle and tries to touch as many team C players as possible. Players touched leave the box (picture 2).
After 5 seconds blow your whistle. Team A leaves the box and team B pick up their ball. Two seconds later, blow your whistle a third time and team B look to score a try in the opposite 5m channel against team C players who were not touched. This is now full contact.
Rotate teams and make sure they all get three turns in the middle, defending and attacking.
- Score 1 point for every try scored, every time the defence prevents a try by tackling, forcing a forward pass, knock-on or knocking the ball into touch and for every player touched. Add these points together to get the winning team.
“Move quickly to avoid being touched”.
If you have large numbers of players, this a game they can all take part in.
