Clear out
Players need to leave the ball alone when they ruck. You need to practise this skill in an exercise which is as close to the real action as possible.
Have a "rucker" enter through a coned gate and clear a player protecting the ball into a bed of ruck pads, leaving the ball unmoved. The “protector” should provide limited resistance over the ball. Rotate the players around the square for 30 seconds before they swap roles.
The gates may be moved to ensure the protector is just in place in time for when the rucker arrives. This is an intensive practice that also can be used for conditioning.
