Set up
Five metre square box.
What you get your players to do
Put an attacker at the corner of the box with a ball. Have two defenders about 2m away, one on the edge of the box and one in the middle. Have the attacker aim to get to the far end of the box. The defenders have five seconds to put him to ground and win the ball.
Look for
• First defender going low, second defender driving the ball carrier over.
• The defender on his feet releasing theball carrier once he is tackled, and then going for the ball.
• The defender challenging for the ball staying on his feet, but staying low with knees bent.
• Ensure the first defender does not getbeaten on the inside.
Development
• Add another attacker.
• Have the defenders run into position from outside the box and then set.
Notes
• You can run several groups at once, rotating players between groups.
• If you have tackle suits, put them on the attacker.
• Start at walking pace to demonstrate.
• Make the ball carrier work hard to score – he should challenge the defence.
