CORE SKILLS

  • Sidesteps
  • Tracking
  • Speed
  • Reactions
  • Turning

THE STORY

“An attacker and defender run unusual running lines, which map out an R, to create a dynamic 1 v 1 which gives a chance for the attacker to attempt to step inside or outflank the defender.”

SET UP

A 6-8m box and ball.

HOW TO PLAY

  1. Have a player on each side of the square walking or slowly jogging up to the corner before turning to face each other.

  2. As they approach each other, a feeder passes to one of the players.

  1. They both then run back to their own line.

  2. On turning, the ball carrier aims to score over the other player’s line. The other player aims to make a two-handed touch.

DEVELOPMENTS

  • The passer joins the attacker but must run to the line as well.

  • The ball is rolled into the box towards the intended ball carrier.

  • Play full contact.

NUMBERS

With four players, another player stands behind the passer and then becomes an additional attacker or defender.
