Power stepping

U11–U12 | CONTACT 8

Get players power stepping into the defender and presenting the ball to the support player

Practising the power step

  • Split your players into groups of four. A defender holds a ruck pad. Two attackers (1 and 2) start 5m away with a third attacker (3) 5m behind the defender.Practising the power step 1
  • When you say “go”, attacker 1 runs with the ball and power steps into the pad knocking the defender back. He pops the ball to attacker 2 who runs to attacker 3.

Practising the power step 2

  • The defender turns around, allowing attacker 2 to run towards him, power step and pop to attacker 3. Each player carries three times and then they swap the defender.
