Planning sessions around performance problems
Motley Crew are a combative bunch – although they aren’t the biggest pack in the league, they are scrappers that love the contest and make life difficult for the opposition. Often this pays off handsomely, but also has the potential to get them into trouble.
Motley Crew try to contest the opposition rucks when they are on defence. This is part of their game model: contest hard to slow the opposition ball.
This is a good tactic, but at times the Crew overcommit to dead rucks (ones that have already been won by the opposition) and this puts the defence under even more pressure.
Using Mason’s guidance, the team are going to solve the problem in two ways:
Off-field: Slow and deliberate, to do the thinking before the session.
On-field: Shared application of possible solutions.
