Introduction to continuity as a principle of play

In the go forward and support e-learning courses, we said:

  1. Rugby is an invasion and evasion game.
  2. To score you first need to GAIN POSSESSION.
  3. Once in possession, you need to GO FORWARD. Invade the opposition space by evading their attempts to stop you.
  4. SUPPORT maintains possession before the tackle and helps move the ball into a position to go forward.

This module is going to concentrate on the attacking principles of play of maintaining possession after the tackle. We can call it recycling the ball, or continuity.

Support has a crucial role to play in this principle, so there is some crossover.
