EXPERT SESSIONS AND ADVICE FROM QUALIFIED AND EXPERIENCED GRASSROOTS RUGBY COACHES

Conclusion and handouts

Thank you for joining me on what was a journey for me too. And still is.

Here are some five keys idea to take away with you.

  1. Games are fun – let’s make them purposeful.
  2. Know your principles of play – and then help the players know them too.
  3. Concentrate on only a few skills in any game.
  4. Adapt the games with bonus points – but tries are always the highest points value.
  5. You will make mistakes. That’s good. Learn, unlearn, relearn.

WHAT NOW?

I would do one of two things:

  1. Take a game you know or you find from a source like the RFU’s Game Changers. Apply the purpose questions and then run the game.
  2. Identify some skills you want to work on, apply them to a principle, devise a change and then check it again the purpose questions.

After each game, reflect on what you could have done better.

But, always think:

GET BETTER, FEEL BETTER
